I've wondered about him. It's the camera crew that's always thrown me off. I just don't think that the producers would make a camera crew live on dung beetles or sleep in a creeky lean-to in a rain-forest. Those guys have to have energy bars and gatorade and tents. I can't imagine Bear making his fill of fire ants while the sound guys are roasting marshmellows (so to speak). When the cameras turn off, you know that Bear's climbing into a nice warm tent and turning on the battery powered t.v. to catch the latest cricket scores.
Survivorman, though, is hardcore. He's his own camera crew; so he's got to lug around camera equipment. There's an episode where he's somewhere snowy and cold. You can just barely see him walking slowly, painfully away. Great shot. And then he says something like, "And if you like this shot, just think about this: I still have to turn around and go back for the camera."
